Breaking all the stylistic rules Global Groove LAB releases its debut album “I’m a Stranger”. In their “LAB” they experiment with melodies, grooves and genres from around the world. Traditions combined with modern sound express the musical journey of the multicultural line‐up of the band. Inspirations are coming from the Balkans, reggae, India, Africa, Latin America, rock, jazz and even classical music. The texts are critical of society, political, but also about the finer things in life.
All started as an experimental jam session led by Russian violinist Pavel Shalman and Serbian bassist
Jovan Torbica. It involved musicians from Bulgaria, Morocco, Palestine, Romania, Nigeria, Macedonia,
Tunisia, Bosnia, Brazil, Ukraine, Hungary, Turkey, India, Venezuela, Trinidad & Tobago and more,
eventually leading to the formation of Global Groove LAB.
Their first single Global Čoček paints a good picture of the band: Čoček is a traditional Balkan dance, in
Global Čoček this tradition is injected with modern vocals, African/Jamaican vocals, Turkish strings and
Greek bouzouki lines. In the music video the viewer dives into an underground fantasy world, led through a long labyrinth with strange encounters, always in motion, pumping with energy and life. The single was also remixed by the World Music DJ & producer Dj Panko known for his work with Ojos de Brujo adding a new electronic flavor to the sound.
